DIMETRA IP Scalable system components:

Mobile Switching Office (MSO):

A Mobile Switching Office is a physical location that contains all the components necessary for controlling calls within a zone and for communicating with other zones to manage interzone calls (calls that go between zones). In addition, the MSOs provide the hardware and software components that are used for network management and system config.
 

Base Sites:

A Base Station serves as the Radio Frequency (RF) interface between the system infrastructure and the radios. Base Stations in a trunked system have three primary interfaces:

• A receiver to pick up the RF signal from the radios
• A transmitter to send RF signals to the radios
• A wireline interface (E1, X.21, Ethernet IP)  to send audio and control traffic to the system infrastructure
• There are 5 base station types: MTS1, MTS2, MTS LiTE, MTS4, MTS 4L

Control Site:

Control sites are the locations where the users of the system (dispatchers and network managers) access the dispatch consoles and/or the network management terminals (NMTs). A control site can include a variety of equipment to serve its particular purpose in the system. It may have just dispatch consoles or NMTs or it may have both depending on the requirements. It may also contain call logging equipment or an Integrated Command and Control System (ICCS) Gateway
